Own voices and consent
How a person's own voice is made only with their consent, where it is kept, and how to delete it.
An own voice is a synthetic copy of a real person's voice, used to read your films. Because it is a person's voice, Showreel Studio makes one only with that person's spoken consent.
Only you can make your voice
- You make your own voice, signed in as yourself, by reading Google's consent sentence aloud: "I am the owner of this voice and I consent to Google using this voice to create a synthetic voice model." Then you read anything for about ten seconds.
- Nobody can make a voice for someone else, or from an existing recording.
- Use voices only of your organisation's own staff and contractors, unless you have a written agreement with the person.

Where it is used
- Only in your organisation's films. Nobody outside your organisation can see or use it.
- Every film voiced with it records which voice was used.
- Your organisation is responsible for what the voice is made to say, as it would be for a recording of the person.
What is kept
- The voice key, sealed (encrypted) on the service, never sent to a Mac and never shown to anyone.
- The consent recording and the sample, as the record of consent, for as long as the voice exists.
- Google receives both recordings to make the key, on your organisation's own Google Cloud project. Google's own terms for Cloud Text-to-Speech apply.
Delete a voice
The person, or an owner of the organisation, can delete a voice at any time:
- In the web app: open Account and press Delete under Own voices. Owners see the button on every voice.
- In the local app: open Kits and press Delete on your own voice in Own voices.
- In the terminal:
showreel voices delete <id>.showreel voiceslists the ids.
Deleting removes the key and both recordings at once.
