Fix a failed take
What a failed or wrong take leaves behind, and how to fix it and record only what broke.
A take can fail outright (a step could not find what it was looking for) or finish but show the wrong thing. Either way you fix the cause and record again, keeping the voice.
What a failed take leaves
- The log names the part of the take that failed and the error.
- The footage up to the failure is kept, with the markers of every line it reached.
- A picture of the screen at the moment it stopped is saved in the film's
shotsfolder, named_fail_and the part's name.
Find what is wrong
- Open the film and look at the log.
- If the film built, select each line on the timeline. The Line panel shows its Frames (the first and last frame of the shot) beside its Expect.
- Mark each shot Pass or Fail. For a Fail, write what is wrong in the note. See Check a film before you share it.
Fix it
When the steps are wrong
- Correct the line's Steps on the Line panel and save.
- Click Snapshot to check the steps reach the right screen. See Snapshot the screens.
- Record again. The driver is compiled from the new steps.
With the repair skill, in Claude Code
Ask Claude to repair the film. The showreel-repair skill reads the checks, each shot's frames and the contact sheet, and your Pass and Fail verdicts with their notes, where a Fail with a note is its brief. It compares each shot with its Expect, fixes the driver or the storyboard, and records again only what failed.
When the app changed
If the take is fine but a screen in your app has changed since, record again and rebuild, with the voice kept. In the app, click Recut under More stages on the Files panel. In the terminal:
showreel recut compose
When the fixed storyboard needs a new approval, the app asks for it first.
