Captions and subtitles
Subtitles and a transcript come with every film; captions on the picture and words on the vertical cut are yours to choose.
There are three kinds of words on or beside a film, and they work differently.

Subtitles and a transcript
Every build writes, beside the film:
- a
.vttand an.srtsubtitle file; - a
.txttranscript.
They are made from the voice as it sits in the cut. Each line's words are split into cues of at most two rows of 42 characters, broken at sentence ends and then commas, timed across the line's voice and shown a tenth of a second before it is heard. The square and vertical cuts share the same timing.
Watch with subtitles
- In the app, click CC under the film, or press the
ckey. - In the web app, a recording's Film tab plays them, and offers Subtitles (VTT), Subtitles (SRT) and Transcript to download.

Captions on the picture
A caption is a short pill of text over the app while its line plays, in the kit's style. They are off in the product's kits.
Turn them on
- Select a line and type its Caption on the Line panel. Do the same for each line that should have one.
- On the Film panel, in What a build makes, click Captions on the picture.
- Save, approve and record again.
Callouts
A callout is a ring and a label pointed at one element during a line, such as the button being clicked. Set Callout on (the element) and Callout label (a few words) on the Line panel. Like captions, it is drawn while recording, so it appears in every shape after the next recording.
Words on the vertical cut
The vertical cut burns the voice-over in under the close-up, because tall films are usually watched with the sound off. To leave them off, set "burnCaptions": false in the storyboard file. See Square and vertical cuts.
